This is the knot used whenever a weight bearing loop needs to be made in the rope. When used with the Blake's Hitch, the tail of the knot shown in the illustration would be about 3 1/2 feet long and would end in the Blake's hitch tied around the Hauling part of the rope (see "Friction Hitch Climbing" p. 26). When a split-tail is used however, the tail is as illustrated. [Similar knots: Bowline]
