i am not an expert nutritionist, but it does seem important to make a couple of observations regarding diet for the ice climber. Although carbohydrates provide the best source of energy for most sports, the special demands of ice climbing (cold conditions and long-term output of effort) would seem to indicate a need for greater proportions of protein and fat. Caffeine is a vaso-constrictor, which cuts off blood to extremities. Therefore, tea and coffee cannot be recommended since they increase the likelihood of injury due to cold. (But I drink a lot of both!)
