We've come a long way, baby!

HERE'S HOW WE LOOKED 40 YEARS AGO, issue No. 1 of Climbing, Yep, we burst out of the gate in full black-and-white, turning heads with this sweet butt shot taken at Garden of the Gods, Colorado Props to Gary Ziegler for his first cover shot!

Inside, it got even better, with 30-plus pages of goodness. Besides Garden of the Gods, the features included a classic treatment on the Black Canyon by Layton Kor, Hetch Hetchy climbing by Galen Rowell, and an account of the first ascent of the East Face of Shiprock by Bill Forrest. Now that was 75 cents well spent!
